How to Prepare Your Dog for a Photoshoot

A few simple steps before session day that make a real difference to your portraits.

Before Session Day

What to Do Before Your Session

1. Exercise Before the Session

A short walk or play session before your appointment helps burn off excess energy. A slightly tired dog is a focused dog.

2. Skip the Pre-Session Meal

Bring your dog slightly hungry so treats are extra motivating. Don’t skip meals entirely — just avoid feeding right before you arrive.

3. Bring Their Favourite Treats

Tyria will have treats on hand, but your dog’s absolute favourite is always the best motivator. Bring a small bag of whatever works best.

4. Bring a Favourite Toy

A beloved toy can help shy or nervous dogs relax. It also gives Tyria something to use to get that perfect alert, engaged expression.

5. Groom Them Beforehand

A bath and brush 1–2 days before the session ensures your dog looks their best without being freshly groomed and uncomfortable.

6. Stay Relaxed Yourself

Dogs pick up on your energy. Arriving calm and relaxed makes a real difference to how quickly your dog settles into the session.

Common Questions

About Your Session

What if my dog is reactive or nervous around strangers?

Let Tyria know before your session. She has extensive experience with nervous and reactive dogs. The studio environment is private and controlled — no other animals, no unexpected visitors.

That’s completely normal and nothing to worry about. Tyria is patient and experienced with high-energy dogs. Some of the best portraits come from dogs who are moving and playing, not sitting still.

Yes — multi-dog sessions are available. Let Tyria know when you book so she can plan the session accordingly.
